  • About The Role

  • The Safeguarding Officer helps people with sight loss to live the life they choose by providing first line advice and support in relation to Safeguarding concerns and enquiries to Guide Dogs staff and volunteers, service users and potentially other people who come into contact with Guide Dogs. This role also supports the day to day running  of the Safeguarding Team with training, support and guidance for the organisation in related subjects.

    Candidate requirements

    To be able to fulfil this role, the skills and experience we are looking for in a potential candidate include;

    Essential
     
    • Educated to degree level or equivalent Higher Education or Training in relation to working with children and adults. 
    • Proven subject matter knowledge and experience of Safeguarding in relation to children and adults. 
    • Experience of managing safeguarding casework 
    • Understanding of adult learning & development and or experience in delivery of training 
    • Proven experience in operating IT Data management systems, interrogating, inputting, and extracting data and working with relevant software packages. 
    • Honed interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively gathering and sharing information while applying empathetic, analytical and coaching techniques.  
    • Ability to work unsupervised on own initiative, being a highly motivated self-starter and ability to work as part of a virtual team. 
    • Proven planning and prioritising, methodical in approach, well organised and efficient.  
    • Willingness to engage in continuous professional development to keep skills and knowledge fresh and up to date.  
    • Proven/demonstrable understanding of how Child and Adult protection legislation applies to Charities working with vulnerable groups 
    • Knowledge of duty of care and when to refer Safeguarding Concerns in relation to children and adults 
    • Knowledge of what helps create as Safer Culture in organisations 
    • Understanding of confidentiality and consent and when to apply it.
    • Excellent Microsoft Office skills with demonstrable ability to use Word, Outlook and Excel. 
    • Honed skills in working with database management systems 
    • Demonstrable skills in customer services, working under pressure, prioritising workload, completing tasks and problem solving.
