  • About The Role

  • The Guide Dog Trainer Supervisor plays a vital role in empowering people with sight loss to live the life they choose. This position is responsible for leading and managing a team of Guide Dog Trainers (GDTs), ensuring the highest standards of dog training and productivity. The role also involves assessing and preparing allocated dogs to meet the required standards for successful partnership training—within agreed timeframes and using ethical, best-practice methods.

Candidates must hold a recognised guide dog qualification, such as GDF or IGDF. Consideration will also be given to applicants with appropriate guide dog training experience. This is a Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm role, based at our Atherton branch.

Provide day-to-day line management for a team of GDTs across the designated geographical area or site. Offer technical supervision, coaching, and professional development to ensure staff deliver exceptional results.

    • Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure all team members adhere to relevant policies, procedures, and quality standards, including safeguarding and health and safety. Oversee technical supervision processes and maintain accurate documentation within the supervision framework.

    • Onboarding & Performance Management
Support new team members through effective onboarding and development, working closely with the Operations Manager and Academy colleagues to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing performance improvement.

    • Operational Delivery
Contribute to the achievement of local business plans through effective staff management and development. Collaborate with the Operations Manager on dog flow, ensuring seamless intake from puppy raising and allocating dogs based on training potential and customer needs.

    • Workload Planning & Prioritisation
Partner with the Operations Manager to allocate workloads and priorities, ensuring local plans align with national targets.

    • Collaboration & Communication
Maintain regular communication with the Operations Manager to ensure efficient delivery of local and regional services. Provide support for additional tasks as required, including deputising during absences.

    • Risk Management & Problem Solving
Identify resource issues and risks impacting service delivery and work with the Operations Manager to develop effective solutions.

    • Training Quality & Standards
Observe training programmes delivered by GDTs, providing constructive feedback to maintain high-quality standards. Act as a subject matter expert in implementing quality assurance processes and advising on remedial training plans for timely dog progression.

    • Direct Dog Training
When required, deliver or support guide dog training to ‘match-ready’ standard, following current training frameworks and standards.

    • Other Duties
Undertake any additional activities relevant to the role that support our mission to help people with sight loss live the life they choose.
