  • About The Role

  • This role is based at our Reading Hub in Burghfield Common, with working hours of Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

Come and join us as a motivated and thoughtful CustomEyes Design Technician, and be part of something life‑changing - helping people with sight loss live the life they Choose.
At Guide Dogs, we’re committed to helping people with sight loss live the life they choose. As a CustomEyes Design Technician, you’ll play a key role in making reading accessible by producing high-quality large print materials tailored to individual customer needs.

You’ll work with a variety of content, from novels and textbooks to children’s picture books, transforming them into accessible formats that make a real difference to people’s lives.

    About you:

You’ll be detail-oriented, organised, and committed to delivering high-quality work. You will have experience with IT systems, design software, and print production tools. You are proactive, customer-focused, and able to effectively manage competing priorities.

    What you’ll be doing
    • Converting books into accessible large print formats by scanning, transcribing, and reformatting content using Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign.

    • Producing finished materials using specialist print and binding equipment, including guillotines, spiral and perfect binders, and multi-function printers.

    • Proofreading and carrying out quality assurance checks to ensure all materials meet high standards before production.

    • Managing and storing files in line with organisational policies and maintaining accurate production records.

    • Monitoring production costs to ensure work is delivered within budget, escalating any risks where necessary.

    • Acting as a first point of contact for customers—handling enquiries, processing orders, and delivering excellent customer service throughout.

    • Ensuring compliance with Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) requirements through administration of the CustomEyes membership scheme.

    • Working collaboratively with the team to maintain equipment, manage stock levels, and ensure smooth production workflows.

    • Keeping training materials and processes up to date to maintain consistent, high-quality output.

    • Prioritising workloads effectively to meet production schedules and deadlines, escalating any issues that may impact delivery.

    • Delivering a high standard of service to customers and volunteers in line with agreed service levels and procedures.

    Benefits:

We wouldn’t be able to change the lives of people with sight loss without our people. That’s why it’s important for us to provide a variety of benefits that reward our colleagues in a way that suits them and recognises the hard work and contribution that they make.

    • 26 days annual leave. After three years of continuous employment, this increases to 28 days plus bank holidays.

    • Real Living Wage Employer

    • Flex pot - equal to a proportion of your annual salary to use on our wide variety of flexible benefits

    • The option to buy and sell annual leave

    • Discounts and cash-back scheme

    • Excellent pension scheme (We will match your pension contributions plus 2% up to a maximum of 9% employer contribution)

    • And lots more!
