  • About The Role

  • The Access Assistant plays a vital role in supporting individuals with sight loss, helping them carry out their professional responsibilities effectively and independently. This role involves a combination of driving and support duties, enabling the person being supported to navigate their work with confidence and efficiency. Importantly, the Access Assistant does not perform tasks on behalf of the individual, but instead facilitates their ability to complete them independently.

Responsibilities for this role may vary depending on the specific needs of the individual and will be detailed in the recruitment pack. However, core duties generally include providing sighted assistance by offering orientation and guidance in unfamiliar environments, along with general support as required. Administrative support is also a key part of the role, which may involve note-taking, reading documents aloud, and handling sensitive information in line with data protection regulations. The Access Assistant may also be expected to carry out basic digital tasks such as data entry using Microsoft Office applications, managing Outlook calendars, and maintaining accurate and confidential records. Another important aspect of the role is retrieving and compiling information from various sources, including internal systems, printed materials, and online platforms.

This particular Access Assistant position is designed to support a staff member who works as an Operations Support Coordinator within the Operational Excellence Team. Specific tasks will include occasional dog care, as the staff member has a Guide Dog and may need assistance with letting the dog out. The role also involves taking notes during both virtual and in-person meetings, proofreading documents before they are sent, and supporting a wide range of administrative tasks. Occasional sighted guiding and orientation will also be required. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and database management is essential.

The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys being around dogs and can build a good rapport with the staff member. They should be computer literate and open to learning new software tools. The team is based in Leamington, and by supporting the Operations Support Coordinator in their role, the Access Assistant will be contributing to the wider mission of helping people with sight loss live the life they choose.

Working hours for this position are from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday to Thursday (with an unpaid lunch break) and from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Fridays, start and finish times may be adjusted slightly to allow for a degree of flexibility.
