    As a Family Outreach Events Officer at Guide Dogs, you’ll provide information, advice and guidance services to parents, carers and families of Children and Young People with a vision impairment through a planned programme of national and regional events and activities. Our Family Events Officer’s play a huge part in ensuring everything we do enabling families of children and young people with a vision impairment the chance to take a break, broaden their experiences, seek appropriate professional support and meet others in a similar situation

     

    This role is offered on a hybrid basis Monday – Friday requiring regular travel within the region, and some UK-Wide to recce and deliver events, with additional travel to attend meetings. It is expected that travel will take place approximately 3–4 times per month.

    Due to the nature of the role, events are often delivered at weekends. Therefore, there will be a requirement for weekend working, with time off in lieu (TOIL) provided in accordance with organisational policy.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Acting as a Subject Matter Expert, advise other members of the wider CYPF workforce in the planning, marketing, administration and compliance of regional events.
    • Responsible for the annual family event calendar which is run throughout the UK & Northern Ireland as part of the service delivery targets for the Family Events service.
    • Plan, market, carry out and evaluate all event activities. 
    • Prepare, manage and be accountable for individual budgets for each event, ensuring that all activities come within budget 
    • Ensure that suppliers of goods and services are appropriately sourced and managed through the procurement and finance processes.
    • Demonstrate a high level of technical knowledge within this professional field and be responsible for Health and Safety risk assessments at all events.

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Ability to liaise effectively with other professionals/agencies.
    • Experience of working with families and children with a disability.
    • Experience of creating an inclusive environment for people with a disability.
    • Understanding of how compliance factors such as data protection, safeguarding and health & safety are applied to a practical situation
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
