  • About The Role

  • Lead a Love of Reading. Change Young Lives.

Are you an education professional who believes that every child deserves access to books and the joy of reading?
Do you thrive on creativity, innovation and making a real difference for young people?
Are you ready to take on a rewarding leadership role that combines education, inclusion and purpose?

If so, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

    About the Role

Guide Dogs is looking for an inspiring CustomEyes Service Manager to lead our unique in‑house publishing service for children with vision impairment. CustomEyes creates high‑quality large print and alternative format books, opening up the world of stories and learning to young people with sight loss.

In this pivotal role, you will:

    • Lead and develop our alternative format children’s book service
    • Champion literacy, inclusion and access to reading for children and families
    • Build strong partnerships with publishers, educators, sector organisations and service users
    • Expand the range and reach of available titles
    • Ensure a high‑quality, cost‑effective service that truly meets the needs of children and young people

Above all, you’ll help children with sight loss to live the life they choose — by embedding a lifelong love of books and learning.

    Why Join Us?

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to extend their impact beyond the classroom. You’ll be encouraged to bring your ideas, creativity and enthusiasm to shape and grow a service that makes a tangible difference every day.

The role is based at our Head Office on the outskirts of Reading, with moderate travel and opportunities for home working where appropriate.

    What We Offer

We believe in supporting our people as well as the communities we serve. You’ll benefit from:

    • A generous pension scheme and annual leave
    • Life assurance
    • Enhanced pay for parenting and sickness leave
    • Employee Assistance Programme
    • Flexible benefits package
    • Discounts and cashback scheme

If you’re passionate about education, inclusion and the power of reading, we’d love to hear from you.

Further details are available in the attached candidate pack and job description.
